Forced Teacher Furloughs

Teacher Furlough

Palm Trees

Palm Trees

I drive my kid to daycare during the week, and I drive by a public elementary school. I see kids walking to school, some have their parents with them. I see a line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot to drop their kids off. It is clear, school is in session. However, lately the activity has been dead.

Granted they could be on spring break, but my wife reminded me about the Furlough’s that were imposed on the teachers. Essentially because the state cannot afford to pay teachers, they forced them to take days off, so they won’t have to pay them.

As a kid in school, I would love this. As a parent, it makes me think of how I’m watching the public eduction system fall apart before my own eyes. The same public school system that I pay taxes for, yet receive no benefit from.

I understand the politicians are only doing it to solve a problem they created, but I don’t think it solves the bigger problem. That is the problem that our public eduation system in America is falling apart. They only way to get a quality education for your kids is to pay for it yourself.

You don’t need me to tell you, just Google “teacher furlough days“.
